Design checklist: car park ventilation and smoke extraction

A concise list of what to check in the design of jet fan (impulse) ventilation and smoke extraction for a car park: requirements of DBN (Ukrainian State Building Norms) and DSTU (Ukrainian national standards), fan selection, controls, CFD justification and the input data for the calculation.

What it is: a 2-page PDF with items for checking a design — from the car park category and CO sensors to the F300/F400 fan class and fire scenarios. Fill in the form — the link to the file appears immediately.

What’s inside

  • Regulatory framework as of October 2026: DBN V.2.3-15 (amendments Nos. 1–3), DBN V.2.5-56 (amendments Nos. 1–2), DSTU EN 12101-3:2017, DSTU CEN/TS 12101-11:2026 — with the clause numbers that the design expert review checks most often.
  • Everyday ventilation: calculation for CO dilution, separate systems for each underground level, CO monitors with automatic ventilation start.
  • Smoke extraction: the start-up sequence of the systems, automatic, remote and manual start, category I power supply, a limit of 900 m² per smoke intake device.
  • Fans: EN 12101-3 classes (F300 — 60 min, F400 — 120 min), high-temperature safety switches, bypass of protections in fire mode.
  • Justification of the jet fan system: when CFD modelling is required, which scenarios and criteria to set, what the report must contain.
  • Input data for the calculation: the list of drawings and parameters to prepare before contacting an engineer.

Who will find it useful

  • designers of HVAC and fire protection systems;
  • technical clients and developers who check a contractor’s solution;
  • installation companies preparing for commissioning.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Is the checklist really free?

Yes. We ask only for your name and e-mail, to understand who uses the material and, if needed, to answer questions about your project. We do not send newsletters.

Is the checklist suitable for above-ground car parks?

Yes. Items that apply only to underground car parks, or only to enclosed above-ground ones, are marked separately (for example, cl. 8.33 of DBN V.2.3-15 on jet fan smoke extraction).

How often do you update the checklist?

After changes to DBN or DSTU. The current edition is October 2026.

Shall we discuss your car park or project?

Send us the layout or the brief — we will prepare a Wolter fan selection, a calculation and, if needed, CFD modelling.
