How jet fan car park ventilation works

Compact jet fans replace bulky ductwork under the ceiling. Wolter supplies the complete system: fans, sensors and controls that work as one.

Slab Car park level Supply Exhaust Jet fans — Smoke and CO pushed towards the exhaust shaft
  1. Supply air

Fresh air enters the car park through supply fans or open inlets.

  2. Jet fans

Jet fans mounted under the ceiling create a directed airflow that carries air towards the extract zone.

  3. Extract

Extract fans remove polluted air and, in a fire, take the smoke out by the shortest route.

  4. Sensors & controls

The system adjusts its operating mode on its own and keeps smoke from spreading into neighbouring fire zones.

  • No ductwork: more headroom and a brighter, more open space
  • Installation, running and maintenance usually cost less than a ducted system
  • Escape routes stay clear of smoke for longer
  • Smoke exhaust fans tested to EN 12101-3 (classes F300 and F400)

We design
smoke exhaust systems.

We design smoke exhaust systems for buildings of different functions: covered car parks, residential buildings, shopping and office centres, and tunnels.

We calculate the airflow, select the fans and check the layout with CFD modelling before anything is installed.

CFD modelling

Modelling jet fan smoke extraction and ventilation systems

We calculate airflow velocity and direction, temperature distribution, age of air and smoke spread in the car park to confirm the system works as designed.

How we run CFD modelling

Infrastructure
projects.

Experience across a variety of industries. Since 1972, Wolter has supplied ventilation equipment to infrastructure projects: wind power generation, airports, underground car parks, offshore installations, road tunnels, railway, metro and mass transit (tunnels, stations and platforms), and rolling stock.

About Wolter

German engineering since 1971

When developing its products, Wolter pays close attention to aerodynamics, control technology, and the acoustic and vibration behaviour of ventilation equipment.

Wolter GmbH Maschinen- und Apparatebau KG has designed and manufactured fans since 1971. The company serves key markets worldwide through subsidiaries and distributors, and around 80% of its turnover comes from exports.

The complex interplay between these factors in every new project is always of great interest to the company’s engineers. Using the most innovative design tools, including CFD simulation, Wolter offers the optimal solution for any task.

Modern drive and control technology increases efficiency and significantly reduces a building’s operating costs. Aerodynamically optimised impellers and housings keep noise to a minimum.

  • Two factories in Germany, headquarters in Malsch
  • Quality management system certified to DIN EN ISO
  • In-house facilities for factory testing, research and development
  • First manufacturer to put carbon-fibre axial impellers into series production
