Wolter AXG two-stage axial fans

Two counter-rotating axial stages in one casing, each with its own motor. The fan keeps running if one stage stops and develops more pressure than a single-stage fan.

Temperature rating
−40…+40 °C; F300/F400 on request
Sizes
315–1600

How it works

Two impellers are mounted in series and rotate in opposite directions, so no guide vanes are needed between the stages. Each impeller has its own motor.

Redundancy and part load

One stage delivers about 65 % of the airflow at about 40 % of the power input. If one stage stops, the other keeps extracting. Switching stages and pole numbers gives airflow steps of 100, 65, 50 and 33 %; inverter operation is also possible.

Design

Hubs and blades are cast aluminium and X-ray inspected. The blade pitch is set at standstill to the design point. The casing is galvanised (L) or hot-dip galvanised (H) steel. Motors are IEC squirrel-cage, IP55, insulation class F, 2 to 12 poles, with up to 37 kW per stage on AXG 1600.

Applications

  • underground and covered car park ventilation where the rules require two independent stages (for example the German garage regulations and VDI 2053);
  • duct systems with high resistance;
  • industrial systems with high pressure.

For smoke exhaust, the manufacturer’s operating instructions describe F300/F400 high-temperature versions. We confirm the class and the availability for the required size at selection. The single-stage alternative is AXV / BXV.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What pressure does AXG develop?

The manufacturer’s website states nearly 3,500 Pa; the 2006 catalogue states nearly 5,000 Pa. We determine the duty point for your system by selection.

How much air does one stage deliver?

About 65 % of the two-stage airflow at about 40 % of the power. That is both a standby reserve and an economical part-load mode.
