EN 12101-3 classes
EN 12101-3 classifies smoke exhaust fans by temperature and operating time. Wolter equipment uses two classes:
| Class | Temperature | Operating time | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| F300 | 300 °C | 120 min | Car parks and rooms with moderate design gas temperature |
| F400 | 400 °C | 120 min | Underground car parks, tunnels, higher-risk buildings |
The required class is set by the local codes and the fire protection design. AXV axial fans are also available in class F300 for 60 minutes.
Centrifugal and portable smoke-exhaust fans
Among centrifugal fans, the JFC car park jet fan carries a fire rating (F300, F400 on request). Wolter also makes portable smoke-freeing fans for fire brigades; the manufacturer does not publish models or data, so we select them on request.
What to check when selecting
- Operating modes. Many fans run in two modes: daily ventilation and smoke exhaust. Two-speed motors save energy in normal operation.
- Location. A fan inside the served zone faces harsher conditions than one in a separate plant room.
- Power supply. Fire-rated cabling and a reliable supply are required. The isolator switch must match the temperature class.
- Frequency inverter. For F300/F400 fans the motor protections and the inverter are bypassed in fire mode, as the manufacturer requires. The control scheme must allow for this.
- Reversal. If the smoke direction depends on the fire location, choose reversible versions.
Documents
For smoke exhaust fans we provide technical data, EN 12101-3 test information and the conformity documents required in the country of delivery. We confirm the list for each item at selection.
