Market and projects

Hungary completed 12,062 dwellings in 2025, while housing permits rose to 28,081 from 20,494 a year earlier (Hungarian Central Statistical Office) — a pipeline of future projects, including ones with enclosed car parks.

Codes and approvals

The basis is the National Fire Safety Code (OTSZ); official technical guidelines (TvMI) describe how to meet it. Applying a TvMI is voluntary and counts as meeting OTSZ:

  • Decree 54/2014 (XII. 5.) BM — National Fire Safety Code (OTSZ) (version from 23 Sep 2025) — official text: smoke and heat exhaust is required in rooms over 1,200 m² and basement rooms over 100 m² (§ 88), open car parks excepted; fan class F300 60 where the compartment is sprinklered, otherwise F400 90 (Annex 9); sprinklers in enclosed car parks with more than 100 vehicles in the KK and MK risk classes (Annex 14)
  • TvMI 3.6:2025.02.01 “Protection against heat and smoke” — fire protection technical guideline (in force since 1 Feb 2025) — official text: explicitly covers jet (JET) fans: controls, smoke zones and commissioning smoke tests; new enclosed car parks over 5,000 m² with EV charging use a reversible mechanical system, with jet fans starting at most 5 minutes after the alarm
  • TvMI 8.6:2025.02.01 — computer simulation of fire, smoke spread and evacuation (in force since 1 Feb 2025) — official text: simulating jet-fan-assisted smoke exhaust that does not depart from OTSZ needs no separate approval

Hungary is one of the few countries in the region where jet-fan smoke control is described in official guidance: TvMI 3.6 covers jet fans and TvMI 8.6 covers their CFD modelling.

Fire authority: National Directorate General for Disaster Management (BM OKF).

Equipment documents

Wolter smoke exhaust fans are supplied with CE marking and a Declaration of Performance (DoP) under the Construction Products Regulation (EU) No 305/2011: they are tested to EN 12101-3, and factory production control is supervised by the notified body MPA Braunschweig.

Incorporation of construction products is governed by Government Decree 275/2013 (VII. 16.); fire-service guidance expects Hungarian-language declarations of performance.

Design considerations

Under OTSZ the fan class depends on sprinkler protection: F300 60 with sprinklers, F400 90 without. Wolter jet and axial fans are tested for 120 minutes in both classes, so either requirement is covered.

How we work

Jetfans engineers handle selection, calculations and CFD remotely and prepare documentation in English and Russian; on site we work with local installation partners. Equipment from Germany and Korea is delivered to the construction schedule. We are looking for distributors and installers in Hungary.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which documents do smoke exhaust fans need in Hungary?

CE marking and a Declaration of Performance (DoP) under Regulation (EU) No 305/2011, based on the harmonised standard EN 12101-3. Wolter fans are supplied with these documents.

Is jet-fan smoke control accepted in Hungary?

Yes. The official guideline TvMI 3.6 explicitly covers jet fans, and TvMI 8.6 covers CFD modelling of such systems.

Do you work in Budapest?

Yes. We support projects across the country — in Budapest, Debrecen and Szeged and other cities.

Need equipment selection or a system design?

Send us the layouts or the brief — we will prepare a selection, a calculation and a quotation.
